Thought for Today

Contentment makes one virtuous.

The one who is content is free from selfishness, yet is concerned about filling the self with inner treasures. Such a person finds his stock of treasures always full and overflowing. So his thoughts, words and actions are those that are constantly bringing benefit to those around. When we are always content, we always experience ourselves to be victorious. We are easily able to learn from all situations and use all our experiences to move forward. Also we become a giver. We thus get the love and good wishes of those around us and are also able to experience constant progress.

The method for easy progress is to claim the blessings of all.

Projection:

Sometimes we find ourselves making a lot of effort and putting in a lot of energy for getting something done. Yet we find that the results are not according to the efforts that we have put in. We then begin to wonder it happens so.

Solution:

To be able to give happiness to those around is to increase the speed of my progress. For this I need to pay special attention to keep giving happiness and not giving sorrow to those around me. This brings me their blessings and these subtle wishes bring me happiness and success easily.

Thought for Today

Co-operation is perhaps one of the least recognised but most valuable of human virtues. So, for a person to be co-operative means for them to have a quiet eye for what is needed to bring success, and to supply it (and no more)at the right time, in the right place and then to be off. Someone who co-operates, offers their services and then splashes their name on the achievement is not co-operative. It requires invisibility and precision to do and then to go without waiting for results. It also takes a discerning eye to see exactly what is needed, to be removed sufficiently from your own approach to a task and just to contribute one ingredient. Sometimes not even an idea but, however clever you may consider yourself to be, just a hand, a support.

To bring equality in whatever I understand, desire and do is to be truly successful.

Projection:

Although my understanding of right and wrong is really good, I am not usually able to be or feel successful. This is because I notice a mismatch between what I know and what I want. So I am not able to bring that knowledge into action.

Solution:

A conscious effort needs to be put in from my side to compare and see which is better for me - what I know is right or what I feel I want. When I compare in this way, I will be able to change my desires in keeping with the right thing. When these two match, I will be able to bring it into action too. So I will be able to be successful.

Experiencing Peace

In meditation l begin to think about my true identity. l let thoughts about the soul and its qualities fill my mind. Initially it doesn't matter how fast the thoughts are arising as long as they are moving in the right direction. lf my thoughts wander away, gently, l bring them back again to peaceful thoughts of the self. As l become involved in the experience of such thoughts, they will gradually start to slow down and soon l will be able to 'savour' (taste) them. Just as when l am given something special to eat, l eat it slowly, appreciating each mouthful (its flavour and texture), so I begin to appreciate the experience contained in each positive thought. The simple phrase, ‘I am a peaceful soul', comes to life as l begin to experience it.

Happiness is the art of living, the purpose of our existence. Happiness is the true index of quality of life. Without happiness, life is dry and meaningless. With happiness, life immediately becomes fulfilling and wonderful. Happiness is an infectious feeling that immediately lifts the sagging spirits of people. Happy people keep themselves happy because they know the little ways to appreciate themselves and to see the humour and magic in each moment.

Experience of true peace brings easy success.

Projection:

Whenever things go wrong, we find ourselves worrying a lot about the situation or the things that are going on. Then our mind is no longer in peace but is busy worrying and breaking the situation into pieces. We find that we don't find the accurate solution immediately but are thinking in circles.

Solution:

While working to find solutions, it is more important to work at our own inner peace before we make an attempt to try and find a solution. With the right state of mind, we automatically find that the right decisions are being made by us thus giving us the right results.

To have knowledge means to remain cheerful.

The one who has the right understanding based on accurate knowledge is the one who is able to remain content even during difficult situations. Since there is a clear understanding about situations and the people around, there is no difficulty in giving the best under all circumstances. Such a person uses all challenges to enrich his own capabilities. When we are able to use knowledge as a weapon in a positive way, we are able to understand everything that happens. We understand that there is a reason for whatever happens and there is something to learn from every situation. So we are not upset with the varied situations we are faced with, but are able to remain cheerful enjoying everything that comes our way.

Surfacing Positive Thoughts

As we become aware that thoughts are the seeds of our feelings, attitudes, beliefs, speech and actions, the importance of transforming (changing) waste thoughts into positive ones becomes self-evident – changing our thoughts will change what we say, feel, think and do.

On your own, consider what are the gains or benefits of this transformation(change) on:
1. Your body or physical health
2. Your mind or mental health
3. Your relationships or social health
4. Your productiveness (efficiency) at work
5. Your spirit, faith or belief system

The combination of lightness and seriousness gives the best results.

Projection:

When we are working seriously on something, we usually find ourselves getting very serious and grim. We cannot be light at such circumstances. At the same time, lightness is sometimes seen as being careless. So we are encouraged to continue in that way and we can rarely be light while fulfilling our responsibilities.

Solution:

We need to remind ourselves that while working at some important task we need to make effort to maintain our own internal lightness even while doing our best for the success of the task. This lightness will enable us to bring perfection to our task, as we do not feel the burden.

Thought for Today

Even the impossible becomes possible with determination and there is sure success.

The one who is determined is the one who never gives up in adverse situations. He is able to use all the challenges as a means for self-progress. He is never deterred with situations which seem difficult to handle, but is able to creatively bring out new ideas that help him to cross over the obstacles with ease. Determination brings confidence in us and in our ability to achieve what we set out to achieve. We are able to remain confident and sure of our success. This confidence gives us the encouragement not to let go half way through, but to do something till the end. With each obstacle that comes our way that seems to deter us from our path, we find ourselves improving and progressing, making ourselves better and better.

Soul Sustenance

What Is The Soul World (Incorporeal World) (cont.)?

The souls stay in the soul world in well-defined groups. They descend onto this earth in a certain chronological order, according to the quality of “sanskaras”. At the apex of this configuration of souls is the Supreme Soul, whom the other souls call God, Allah, Jehovah, etc. Beneath him the souls are positioned number wise according to their degree of similarity to the Supreme. Depending on the quality and the part the soul has to play, it emerges in the human world, taking the body of a developing baby in a mother's womb. It then continues through the cycle of birth and rebirth according to the role that it has. When the parts are over, souls again return to this world of light, peace, liberation and complete purity.

The deep rest the soul has had in the "home" has such an effect on it that even though it forgets the details about that world, there is always a desire to search for that peace and silence when it becomes lost and confused in the world of matter. In that supreme region only, souls remain in their completely original, natural state, which can be experienced through Rajyoga meditation.

To be a master is to be free from one's own weaknesses.

Projection:

We are usually under the control of our own weaknesses in a negative situation. We first respond to the situation with our weakness and then try hard to change our thoughts. But we don't find ourselves succeeding and the weakness gets the better of us.

We need to develop the consciousness that we are a master and the weakness within us, our creation, and so it is totally in our control. When we develop this consciousness we will be able to win over our weaknesses easily.

What Is The Soul World (Incorporeal World)?

The Soul World, which is the sixth element, is filled with golden-red, divine Iight (experienced during meditation). Over there, the conscient (living entities), the souls, have neither bodies of matter nor bodies of light. There exists neither thought, word nor action; just complete stillness, silence and peace. Just as this world occupies a tiny part of this physical universe, so too the souls occupy just a tiny portion of this infinite world. This is the highest region, the original home of souls and the Supreme Soul, God. This is the region which human beings, irrespective of culture or religion, have tried to reach in thoughts, prayers, etc. It is called by various names in various religions - Heaven, Nirvana, Shantidham, Paramdham, Brahmand, etc. Before I came to this earth, I was there with all other souls, brothers. The experience of complete and utter peace, purity and silence is there in my sweet home. There the soul is untouched by matter. Souls reside there as star-like points of light. They remain dormant, with their roles in the physical world latent (hidden) within them. The roles emerge when they the souls appear on earth, the world stage.

Projection:

When we see anyone doing something wrong, we immediately begin to think about it and judge them based on whatever we have seen. When we bring any such negative thoughts we will not be able to help in any way to overcome the weakness.

Solution:

We need to remind ourselves that we have no right to judge others. The only thing we need to do is to see if we can help them out in anyway to overcome their weakness. If not, we need not think or talk about it, i.e., we need not take the law into our hands.

Cooperation brings easy success.

To work together is to allow the specialities of each and every individual to be contributed in the task to be done. There is an ability to appreciate others and their contribution. There is no ego of one's own specialities but a true and natural appreciation of everyone around. So there is success for the task and for the person too. Whenever we are involved with others in doing something, the task is important in itself but when we understand the importance of cooperation we are able to recognise the specialities of each and every individual. Understanding The Mental Laws

The Law of Belief
Beliefs are concepts that you consider real and true, and you do not question them, even though they have no logical explanation. If we believe in something strongly, if we think that we can achieve something, then we will. What we believe will come true.

We can classify beliefs into five groups:

Beliefs about defects and weaknesses: These beliefs produce thoughts in our consciousness like: "I am no good", "I cannot do this", "I am useless", "I won't manage to complete it".

Beliefs of survival: These beliefs produce thoughts such as: "Life is short. Get whatever you can at any cost whenever you can". Life’s decisions are taken based on these beliefs without taking into the account the repercussions (effects) they may have on our health, our relationships and our future.

Beliefs that create blocks: When we label someone, we are no longer open to try and understand them. For example: "My boss is really egoistic". This type of belief blocks the flow of our positive energy and stops us from connecting openly with these people.

Beliefs that strengthen the self: For example: "I am capable", "I can do it", "There is nothing I cannot be or do if I really want to", "I will overcome the difficulties and meet the challenge".

True beliefs about ourselves: They are connected to eternal certain truths, such as: "I am a spiritual being, I am eternal. God is my spiritual father".

To assure us that a belief is true, we must first believe in it. Then we check it in our consciousness and if a belief is true it will become an experience. If this does not happen, we are doing something wrong or this belief is not correct.

At that time I am not really able to understand the reason for this and I consider the others to be unreasonable.

If there is inner peace even when there is negativity all around, there is the ability to give support to those around. Visualization For Relaxation (cont.)

To experience relaxation by remembering positive scenes of the past, practice the following visualization:

Sit comfortably in a relaxed position...
Activate (open) the eye of the mind or the third eye…
Visualize yourself as a living spiritual energy, a star point of pure energy situated between the eyebrows…
Now remember clearly a situation when you felt extremely relaxed...
Emerge the picture of the situation as clearly as you can on the screen of your mind...
Where you were, in whose company, maybe you were experiencing silence; amidst what actions and interactions were you busy…
Now visualize the colours of the situation that you were surrounded by...
Now recall the sounds of the situation, were there any conversations involved…
Hear them in your mind…
If there was silence, recollect how that sounded...
Now emerge in your awareness how or what you felt...in your eyes... your heart... your whole body... Bring into your mind the particular emotions or feelings of
relaxation related to that scene...
Holding both the image of the scene in the eye of your mind and its feelings in your mind, place an object in the scene, it could be anything, a flower, an animal, a bird, a star, a musical instrument, etc....
Visualize it clearly there and let it be a symbol for this particular scene and these feelings...
Now you can flash the image of this symbol in front of your mind’s eye to emerge the scene and the feelings of relaxation related to it anywhere, any time, in one second...

Simple Exercise For Experiencing Inner Peace And Compassion (Kindness)

Sit comfortably and relax. Now focus your attention on your breathing… let it find its own calm rhythm… gently breathe in peacefulness and breathe out any negative feelings.

Allow your mind to slow down… do not judge your thoughts as good or bad, accept them and let them go.

Now focus on your inner peace…that place that is deep within yourself… that is peaceful… where your inner compassion (kindness) and forgiveness lies… here you are patient, tolerant, generous, understanding… all these qualities are here which make up your inner compassion. Experience the feeling of compassion… and see it focused as a point… a point of light…situated at the center of your forehead.

Now raise your awareness beyond yourself… to a place of unlimited peace… see it first as a small point of light. As you move towards it, it becomes brighter… it is like an ocean of peace… a space of calm, of love, of compassion… you feel connected to that ocean of deep peace and love… it surrounds you like a shawl, it fills you up, absorbing every part of you with a comfortable warmth.

Rest in that feeling of being loved… it is like energy… a vibration… a light filling you… until you overflow…

Now, slowly you move away from the ocean – as a point of light. You still have the memory of being loved… and can reconnect at any time you want.

Gradually become aware of your body.

Nor does such a person take time in making decisions during challenging times. When we only continue to worry about our problems it is like cursing the darkness. It will not bring light. All we need to do is light a little lamp and we will find the light coming in slowly spreading all around. We find that it is very easy to find the solutions that are already within us.

Soul Sustenance

Self Purification

Each soul has become impure due its own actions during its various births. We ourselves became impure and peaceless because of losing our self awareness, so it is useless to blame anyone else. It is too easy to blame "so-and-so." Today, everyone blames someone else: "It's the religions," "It's the government," "It's the social pressures," "It's the Devil (Ravana)," "It's my wife," "It's my boss." Few can see that their own unhappiness is because of their own weaknesses or actions under the influence of these weaknesses. The "Devil" is just a symbolic personification of these negative forces at work in every soul. The soul itself creates its accounts, good and bad, so the soul itself must balance them. No human soul can settle someone else's account of sins. In this respect many souls are being misled by those who claim to be able to change or interfere with the workings of the laws of “karma”. The ones claiming this have their own accounts of "sins" to settle. While they still remain in a physical body they are within the boundaries of the same laws that apply to all. The law of “karma”, of reaping and sowing, action and reaction applies to everyone.

The account of impure actions can only be balanced by pure actions on the part of the "doer"; the soul. Truly pure actions can only be performed when one is in a state of soul-consciousness and in remembrance of the one who is beyond action; the Supreme Soul (God). In burning love for the Supreme, sins can be rapidly burned. The soul need only increase its love for the Supreme Soul and remember him correctly.

The one who is a special flower keeps spreading the fragrance of virtues.

Projection:

Being in situations that are not always positive it seems very difficult for us to be positive. As is our environment and the situations, we find, so are our own responses, too. That is, we find ourselves reacting negatively in a negative situation and positively in a positive situation.

Solution:

We need to remind ourselves that we are a special flower with our own specialties. The more we remind ourselves of these specialties, the more we are able to spread the sweetness of this fragrance to all - whatever the situations may be.

Thought for Today

Presence is a state of mind that is free from distration. The secret of handling distractions is, to interact with you mind as you would a child. Focus your attention, handle one item at a time and then move onto the next activity. Your power of presence is developed when your mind is focused on the here and now.

Stress Management

It is likely that each day usually has a number of minor and perhaps major tense moments. We tend to accept those moments as a part of normal life and do little to understand and find a solution for them. Little moments finally grow into big moments and suddenly we are in major trouble. By responding honestly to the questions you see here you will gain insight into whatever the situation is and as a result begin to see possible ways to resolve.

Questions
What was your most stressful moment today?
What do you think was the cause of your stress?
Were there any emotions present? Describe those emotions.
Why do you think you responded in this way?

Knowledge and faith bring the ability to be positive.

Projection:

Whenever things don't happen according to what we expect we begin
to look at everything negatively. We are caught up with the
negativity to such an extent that we are not able to find anything
that might be positive in it.

Solution:

We need to understand and develop the faith that behind everything
seemingly negative there is something positive. It is up to us
whether we want to see positive in negative or negative in positive
and be influenced accordingly.

Thought for Today

The one who has courage to bring about a change is free from excuses. For the one who recognizes the need for bringing about a change, every situation is an excuse for doing something new. If there is no commitment to change in every situation, excuses are given and others are blamed. So there is nothing new that is done and nothing new achieved. Life become very interesting for us when we are willing to take up the challenges that it brings. We are not afraid of new situations and challenges but are able to make the best out of the situation, we are free from fear and have the courage to bring about a change easily and naturally.

To make thoughts as pure as the actions is to be truly elevated.

Projection:

There is usually attention on the self not to perform any negative acts. There is also considerable attention not to speak any words that are harmful or negative. But very rarely is there that attention on the thoughts. Because of this a lot of negative thoughts tend to remain in the intellect causing trouble for me.

Solution:

I need to understand the fact that my thoughts form the basis for my words and actions. The more I pay attention to make my thoughts positive, the more it will make a positive impact on my words and actions too. Constant awareness of a positive thought enables me to maintain my own inner positivity.

"See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." Do not even think evil, because first you think of something, then you speak of it, then you see it.

To be successful I need to have the balance between the head and the heart.

Projection:

In my interactions with others, I sometimes only use my head, i.e., my logic. I am very logical and understand the facts very clearly. But if I keep myself limited only to the facts, I tend to forget to use my heart. I then am not available to the other person and fail to understand him.

Solution:

in order to be successful in my interactions with others I need to have the right balance between my head and my heart. I need to see beyond what the facts say and try to listen and understand the other person too. When I do this I will not hurt people with my attitude but will be able to maintain harmonious relationships.

Thought for Today

We're usually very good at spotting mistakes. We can also develop the quality of spotting the good in others and situations. If I keep thinking "they are wrong", I create a barrier which blocks me from reaching my own goodness. By going beyond the curtain of negativity, I will see and feel the good in myself and others.

The one who fulfills promises with determination is the one who overcome all problems.

Projection:

When I see some weakness working within me I usually make a promise to myself with a lot of enthusiasm. But if I face even a little opposition or difficulty in fulfilling this promise, I tend to lose hope and usually give up trying altogether.

Solution:

In order to bring about a change in me and fulfill my promise, I need to use the virtue of determination. Every time I find myself becoming careless in it, I need to remind myself strongly of the importance of the promise that I had made. Then I will be able to win over all the obstacles that come my way in bringing my thoughts and words to actions.

Inner silence helps to prevent us from being limited in our way of thinking. Silence allows us to stand back and observe our mind so we can change the patterns of thoughts that are not working.

To make use of situations in a positive way is to experience constant progress.

Expression:

Each and every situation comes with a hidden blessing - a hidden opportunity. It of course brings challenges, challenges that could bring out the best potential from within. But the one who is caught up with only weaknesses never gets a chance to use these challenging situations as opportunities. On the other hand, the one who uses his potential is able to be from his weaknesses also.

Experience:

When I am able to use all situations as opportunities to recognise and use my inner potential, I am able to be free from the influence of my weaknesses. This freedom gives me the ability to enjoy this moment without filling the mind with unnecessary doubts and questions. It gives the ability to bring about progress in my life, whatever the circumstance may be.
