Thought for Today

If you set your sense of self worth (value) on your position, pay and material possessions, you will not have real self-esteem. All of these things come and go, sometimes at the most unexpected moments. This is why almost every single human being from corporate leaders to househusbands, from Kings to college students are not able to have constantly high self esteem. We are all taught by our society, that worth (value) is measured by rank, quantity of possessions and the amount of monetary (financial) income. Dangerous! It creates a life of sorrow and unhappiness mixed with temporary happiness. You cannot allow your self-esteem to be defined by your work, your capabilities at work, your salary level etc. True internal self-esteem comes for realizing the self as a soul and experiencing its virtues (qualities) and specialties.

What external factors is your self-esteem based on? If real wealth is not money or possessions what is real wealth? What could you start doing tomorrow that may help you transfer your sense of self esteem from something you do or have outside yourself, to something that you are inside?

Message for the day 31-05-2011

To be sincere in removing weaknesses is to have the power to overcome them.

Projection:

While it is important to recognize strengths, it is also important to recognize and acknowledge weaknesses. With honesty, when we understand our weaknesses, with sincerity we are able to work towards overcoming them. We are then able to find the right method too.

Solution:

Let me take a positive thought connected to my weakness and remind myself of that thought at least 5 times a day. For example, if my weakness is anger, let me remind myself of my inherent peace with thoughts like - I am a being of peace, peace is inherent within me. When I practice sincerely with this I find that strength emerges finishing weakness (peace emerges finishing anger).

Universal Concepts About The Supreme Being or God (cont.)

Just as a candle flame emerges from a point source and assumes an oval form, mystics and saints throughout the passage of time have had visions of God as a point of self-luminous light with an oval aura.

Most religions have images, idols or memorials, having one name or the other to represent God as light or as an oval shape.

Throughout India there are statues of an oval-shaped image. They are called ‘Shivalingas’, and are thought to represent the Creator Himself. The names of the temples of Shiva confirm this: ‘Somnath’, the Lord of Nectar; ‘Vishwanath’, The Lord of the Universe; ‘Mukteshwara’, the Lord of Liberation, etc..

In the Old Testament of the Bible, it is mentioned that Moses had a vision of light as a "burning" bush in the desert. Jesus also referred to God as light. In some Christian ceremonies, during the ceremonies, an ostensorio is held up. The ostensorio is a golden ball with many rays radiating from it. Perhaps this is a symbolic representation of God.

Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism called Him "Ek Omkar, Nirakar", the one non-physical (bodiless) being or soul.

According to Islamic legend, when Adam left paradise he came to a low hill upon which he saw a shining white oval stone. Around this stone he circled seven times praising God. He then built the ‘Kaaba’. By the time of Abraham it needed to be rebuilt as a temple to honour the one God. The town of Mecca grew around this spot. This oval stone, later called ‘Sang-e-aswad’ and now ‘blackened’ by the kisses of millions of sinners, so they say, is the only object of worship in the whole of Islam.

So we are able to be carefree about the consequences too. It also brings the awareness that there's nothing that is difficult, so we can surely achieve what we want to.

Solution:

I should be able to change my consciousness in such a way that I am prepared for all the difficulties that life brings. With sincerity I need to give my best to the situation. Then I will neither have fear nor will I worry. I will also be easy and carefree.

Universal Concepts About The Supreme Being or God

There are some universally accepted characteristics of God:

• He is the creator and the one who sustains and takes care of the entire world population.
• He is the Highest of Highest.
• He is the Supreme Father.
• He is non-physical.
• He is omnipotent (one with unlimited power).
• He is a living being.
• He is all-loving and possesses complete knowledge.
• He is unchangeable.
• He is one and He is light.
• He is perfect in values and morals.
• He is absolutely just.
• He is the Supreme Benefactor (the one who brings benefit to everyone).
• He is the savior of souls.
• He is the purifier.
• He is mysterious in His ways.

Even in those religions that believe in and worship many Gods, there is one God who stands above the others. Then there are other faiths who believe God to be one single Supreme Being. Traditions, sacred texts, monuments, sayings and rituals all over the world, point to the existence of and belief in one knowledgeful, all-powerful and merciful being or soul. That being is universally called out to and recognized as the remover of sorrow, the giver of happiness and the savior of the ‘sinful’.

True honesty.

To be honest is not just to be truthful. It is more to be honest with the self. The one who is honest with the self constantly has the aim of bringing about a change for the better. Each situation is used as a chance for the betterment of the self. So there is always the aim not to repeat the mistakes that are committed once.

The one who is sincere receives easy cooperation.

Projection:

When we are doing something with a clear picture in our minds, and sincerely work towards it, others will naturally cooperate. If we ourselves are not sure of what we are doing and why, we will not be able to receive their cooperation.

Solution:

When I want the cooperation of others in what I do, I need to make sure that I am sure of what I am doing and that I am sincere in my contribution. I first need to be committed myself and I will find others helping me automatically.

What Are Thought Vibrations?

The word atmosphere has two meanings. One refers to the physical air around us and the other to the more subtle effect that thought vibrations create in a particular space. No one can deny that the atmosphere of a crowded restaurant is different from that of a temple. This is mainly because of the effect of different types of thoughts and feelings in that space. Even someone deaf and blind would have the ability to pick up the difference. Sound vibrations are invisible but their impact isn't. A pneumatic drill or a jet breaking the sound barrier jolt both our minds (non-physical effect) and the walls of our houses (physical effect). Thought vibrations can't be seen but their non-physical as well as physical impact is even more powerful and influential. The panic that people generate during a stampede or an earthquake and the euphoria (absolute joy) of victory in a World Cup final cricket game are examples of how thoughts create an atmosphere.

On a subtler level, many of us have the experience of basic telepathy - ' I was just thinking of you and you called'. Thoughts connect individuals over large distances. Doctors inform us that over 90% of the physical body's illnesses have a psychosomatic (mental) origin i.e. they are a direct or indirect result of our state of mind. That makes the human body the prime example of how thoughts affect matter.

Since the world is made up of the collective, personal worlds of all individuals, then it's easy to see how the international political, economic and social atmosphere is nothing more than the collective effects of all our thoughts.

When there is the awareness of being an instrument of God, there would be the desire to do the best and be the best. So each and every thing I do would be for the improvement for the self. To be sincere with our own specialities is to achieve constant success.

Projection:

We never need to prove what we are, but because of our sincerity our actions become an expression of our specialiites. Just like a diamond never needs to prove but its sparkle is its proof of the value it has. When we work with our specialities with sincerity, then we will never give excuses or have expectations, but use every situation as an opportunity to express our qualities.

Solution:

If I ever find myself giving excuses for my wrong or negative behaviour or words, I need to remind myself of the goodness and specialities that I have. When I do this, I will be sincere for the use of my qualities under all circumstances.

Anger Management

We normally experience pain or suffering in response to others' anger filled behaviour. Given below is a range of responses, the most common response to the least common response, the shallowest (depthless) to the deepest, check where you lie on the spectrum:

Avenging (Wanting to take revenge): where you want to bring upon the other the pain you have felt yourself, for which you feel the other person is responsible.
Punishing: where you wish to take the law into your own hands, even if only at a mental level.
Reforming: where you wish to change another's personality and behaviour.
Forgiving: where you want to do what you have probably been taught to believe is the right thing to do.
Forgetting: where you want to drop the past at all levels and get on with your life.
Karming: where you recognize and take responsibility for all your hurt because you understand that you always receive the return today of your actions yesterday (Law of karma).
Enlightening: where you realize that you were never hurt in the first place.

Check all the actions that you perform throughout the day. Are your actions such that others will be inspired by you or are they just wasteful and ordinary? Make the practice firm, " I am on this world stage, each and every action that I perform is being watched by many and will inspire them." when you have this practice you will have attention on your actions and they will become special.

The Stage Of Absorption In Meditation

The connection in Raja Yoga meditation is not only with the original self but also with God. During meditation, the self is absorbed in spiritual peace. For this connection and absorption to take place, the thought cannot be distracted, otherwise a short circuit occurs and the energy flow from the Supreme to us stops because the thought has become disconnected from the socket.

The human soul plugs into the unlimited pure energy reservoir of the Highest Being in the entire Universe, often called God. This Being is a reserve player (just like there is one in a cricket or football team) throughout the cycle of time, existing beyond time and matter. God is beyond the effect of pollution and decay which every human soul experiences sometime or the other. When we need to clean out our minds, re-energize, or refill ourselves with power, we have to tap into that Reservoir and we can only do that through our thoughts.

If the thought is concentrated enough, the mind is able to go beyond the ordinary, absorb the qualities of that Being and experience the meaning of inner perfection and liberation. Accordingly, we concentrate, connect and absorb pure energy into the self. The deeper the concentration, the greater the absorption in the self of the qualities radiated by God.

Projection:

When we have love for God, we are able to experience His companionship in everything we do. Where there is love there is never a moment of loneliness. Thus we will be able to move forward being fearless in spite of all the challenges that life brings.

The Eternal World Cycle – Explained With A Comparison (cont.)

Continuing from yesterday’s message ….. In all cyclic processes there is a birth, growth, decline, death and then rebirth. The "river" of humanity flows in a similar manner. The souls are like the drops of water, arriving from the soul world or ‘shantidham’, each in its purest state. They adopt bodies. In the first part of the river of history, the population is small, living in unity and is pure (just like the water). Then, they pass through many births, acquiring the "salts" of impurities through contact with and influence of the physical world. The "sweet water" becomes "brackish" and then "salty". Meanwhile, more pure souls also keep descending in the “river” of humanity, which become impure much faster, due to the overall impure state of the already flowing water i.e. in this case, the state of the world. Finally, all the souls become unrecognizable compared to their original state. The only possibility of them becoming liberated from their acquired impurities is through the influence of God, the "sun" of knowledge, the external “force”.

When the "river" of humanity has poured itself into an ocean of vices, when impurities in human lives and relationships, reach their highest, God, the Supreme, acts to renew (restore) the system. The souls are purified, go back to the "clouds", in this case the soul world, and come to earth again to go through a new cycle. We cannot judge the history of humanity on the basis of limited and comparatively recent past facts and figures. This would be like trying to deduct the whole story of a river on the basis of that tiny part of it passing in front and ignoring its origins. Any particular section of the river may not seem perfect but the whole process is one of perfection. So too with the history of human souls. There is a pure stage and an impure stage; a happy stage and a sad stage; an enlightened stage and an ignorant stage; a day of history and a night of history; a heaven and a hell. There is also the stage in which the impure souls become pure again and the cycle repeats, a period between the night and the day. That is the stage, which the world is presently in.

The Eternal World Cycle – Explained With A Comparison

All the cycles of nature go from high energy to low energy and back again. An example is the water cycle; rain water falls according to gravity and through rivers continues towards the sea, becoming more and more sluggish (slow) as it reaches the sea. After reaching the sea, the sun (the external "force" in this system) shines on the water and it returns the water to its original high energy state in the clouds from where it falls again and the cycle is repeated.

The water cycle is helpful in understanding the rise, fall and the rise again of human souls. From the clouds, drops of pure water fall on top of a mountain, joining together and becoming a stream dancing happily over the rocks. They are pure at this stage, but not entirely free because they are bound to completing a downward journey towards the sea. That journey goes through many different types of countryside. As the "population" of drops increases (due to rain), the stream grows in size. Bubbling through the rocks it picks up impurities in the form of dissolved salts, and the stream becomes a small brownish river, now no longer dancing happily, but moving sluggishly. As it continues, it grows further in size and becomes slower and heavier. It moves past small towns which pour all their waste into the river, then finally runs through the big cities where all types of chemicals and pollutants join the flow. The river at this stage is totally unrecognizable compared to the beginning of its journey. The original drops are still there, as are the drops that have joined in the journey along the way. The water is no longer pure but polluted and full of dissolved salts and mud. The river finally arrives at the ocean. Fortunately, within this cyclic system there is a means by which the drops are "liberated" by means of evaporation. They "fly upwards" forming clouds, leaving the impurities behind in the ocean. From the clouds, the drops of pure water fall again on a mountain and the cycle repeats.

Tomorrow we shall compare the eternal world cycle with the water cycle explained above.

To understand that problems are teachers is to remain fearless.

Projection:

Wisdom enables us to move with time, slipping through life as gently and strongly as possible. When problems do come, we are able to remain fearless, learn from them and move on. Thus we are able to experience constant progress.

Motivation

For a process to happen effectively, I need to prioritise, that is, to make the best use of my time, energy and resources.

To prioritise, I also need to recognise and refuse clever excuses (for example, 'there is no time') and create a timetable that is realistic and functional. As I prioritise my values, then the type of motivation I have becomes clearer. Is my motivation materialistic or spiritual? The results of one and the other are very different.

Materialistic motivation is based on ambition, competition and a desire for position. Often we believe we cannot succeed without these and so think and act on the basis of these values. Often the results include conflict, fear, attachment, jealousy, possessiveness and over-identification of the self with a role, a position, which makes us feel threatened by anyone who is more talented or more praised. For example, when motivation is materialistic, there is always the fear of loss of something that, in turn, creates uneasiness, stress and worry.

Spiritual motivation is based on enthusiasm for a task, rather than blind ambition, co-operation with the uniqueness of others, rather than being in competition with those differences. Finally, the feeling to serve through whatever talent, position, or role I have.

The results of spiritual motivation are respect, harmony, individual and collective well-being, a sense of purpose and the feeling of a deep fulfillment in one's being.

We assume that more choice means better options. However, beware of choice overload; it can leave us confused because a world of possibilities can also be a world of missed opportunities! The one who is light gets the right solutions even in the most difficult situations.

Projection:

Situations do bring a lot of challenges for us, but where there is fear or worry while facing them, there cannot be clarity in thought. So we cannot see the solution that is hidden. On the other hand, the one who is light is able to see the solution hidden within every problem and so is able to achieve success quickly.

Solution:

When faced with a problem I need to make effort to be light and carefree and then look for the solution with a clear mind. I need to make special effort to clear my mind of all waste and negative, especially about the problem itself. Let me instead allow my mind to dwell on something more positive. This will naturally allow my mind to come up with the right solution.

Self Mastery (Meditation)

Create the following thoughts one after the other:

I sit down quietly, feeling calm and relaxed, breathing in and out deeply... distancing my mind from all tensions and worries, remaining free and at peace. All those thoughts that come into my mind at the moment and are not important, I simply let them pass by... I am the creator of my own thoughts...

I think about the power of the will. Originally, I was a being free to choose what I wanted, to decide when I wanted it, without influences... Now, I return to that original state, to that inner source of deep peace, self-confidence and power… Now there is a natural intuition and knowledge of what is right. I realize this is what makes me free…

I feel relaxed and carefully observe my personality... my character and the life I lead... Am I who I want to be? Does my character correspond to my ideals? Do I lead the life I want to lead?

Am I independent? The power to free myself is to be found in my inner self… the capacity to feel like an autonomous being, with a free mind, as peaceful as I desire, as positive as I want it to be. And my feelings are in harmony, free of restrictions, free of influences…

The power of thoughts is so great, if I think I can do something the power will be there to do it. If I choose to think positively, I can think positively. If I want to relax my body, I can do it. If I want to be emotionally free, and still be in the world without bowing down to others, I can… This mastery over the self will bring me true freedom…

I ask myself over and over again: Am I free? ... Free to create the thoughts, and feelings I want to create, when I want to, as often as I want to, for as long as I want to…

I am the creator of my own world, of everything I think and do…

The one who has love and is able to forgive is the one who brings lightness.

Projection:

Love brings the power to forgive. When we love someone it is very easy to forgive even when something goes wrong. Then we are able to do something to better the situation. This environment of lightness based on forgiveness inspires the other person to contribute too. This brings about learning and progress without any feeling of heaviness.

Solution:

When I find someone making a mistake, let me remind myself that if I have to help the person progress I have to forgive. Along with it let me learn from the mistake myself and provide an environment of lightness and learning for the other person too. Then the mistake will never be repeated helping him to move forward with lightness.

Is It Necessary To Renounce (Leave) Society To Experience A Spiritual Lifestyle?

A good meditator is one who has a mental link or union with the internal self and the Supreme Soul or God who is the source of all goodness. This, along with an understanding of the laws of action or the laws of ‘karma’, which govern the behavior of souls, means that one does not have to renounce or leave society in order to achieve enlightenment. Rather, the soul filled with spiritual illumination faces society directly with understanding and the generosity to serve it and to elevate (improve) it.

The soul becomes elevated not by the renunciation of responsibilities or worldly duties but by a renunciation of the negativity that exists within the role being played by it in society. A good meditator does not try to escape social obligations (duties) but rather purifies those duties by becoming filled with light, love, peace and happiness. The stage of self-awareness and God-communication injects a subtle richness into one's life-patterns.

There are those who believe that the elevated state is beyond society and its duties. They find a quiet spot in the jungle or an ‘ashram’ and contemplate (think about) deeper things. There are others who are stuck in the quicksand of their problems, and believe that those who leave society and take up a spiritual lifestyle are saints. However, holiness and virtue are qualities attained in one's life situations, not in running away from them. The elevated state is not merely a matter of elevated thoughts (which can be experienced in a ‘sanyas’), but elevated actions also, for the benefit of the self and the world. We are what we do and not so much what we imagine ourselves to be.

To surrender to God is to be light.

Projection:

When difficult situations come our way, it is a natural habit to worry and so we are unable to use the available resources with ease. On the other hand, if we are able to surrender to the Supreme, we are able to be light. This lightness brings the perception of our resources and capabilities that we are able to use.

Solution:

The first thing I need to do when difficult situations come my way is to surrender the situation and my thoughts to God. As the idea of God is of a perfect being, it is easy to be light and carefree. Concentration

With some meditation techniques, people are given ideas or mantras, which they often simply repeat. They do not penetrate the mind and do not bring any sense of meaning. People bounce these ideas around like a ball in their mind and, from the mind, the ball of thought is bounced to the mouth. Sound patterns are repeated, but nothing has really been understood. The result of this is that there is very little power generated from within to bring about change in behaviour, or personality. Thus, everything continues in the same way. In these cases, people are not focused on spirituality. As a result, after a while, such people find meditation boring, they fall asleep, or think that by repeating words, either verbally or mentally, they are doing meditation. However, the right type of concentration is not brought about simply by repeating sounds or ideas.

Natural concentration is when the mind can hold a thought for a long time, when thoughts are under our own control.

Without concentration the mind goes here, there and everywhere, jumping like a monkey from branch to branch, idea to idea. When there is a natural concentration, we can control our mind and there is peace. This one-pointed concentration on a thought, holding it for as long as we like, gradually collects strength in the mind and in the self.

A strong mind is a mind that is peaceful, stable, satisfied and can remain in the deeper meaning of a thought. There is no waste caused by over-thinking, or the high speed of thought. These are the two greatest diseases of the mind these days, which is why there is so much stress and mental breakdown.

To forgive oneself is to move forward with lightness.

Projection:

When we make a mistake, the usual reaction is to feel guilty about it. Consequently there is a lot of heaviness, which will not let us make the best use of the time in our hands. We will only be caught up in the past and not be able to make full use of the present. So it is important to be light yet not be careless.

Solution:

When I do something wrong, all I have to do is to find out the weakness that is working behind my mistake. Then I will be able to learn from it. When I do this I will be able to forgive myself and use every incident that happens as a gift for my progress. I will then never be stuck, but will be able to move forward with lightness.

Analyzing Success And Failure (cont.)

For many, society has conditioned us to look for success through the path of our career, achievements, profits, praise, financial wealth etc. That way, we have learned a narrow view of success. Running in search of this kind of success and pursuing it, we come to exhaust ourselves, get burnt out and depressed. In order to achieve these successes we have stopped caring for the inner being (the soul) and relationships. That has meant and means stress, pain, anxiety, family break ups, personal and relational disintegrations, the destruction of the environment and planetary and climatic imbalances. As a consequence, we feel empty. Although we achieve the applause, the income and other successes, the soul is malnourished and has the sensation that it is lacking something. Reaching fame, financial wealth, the power of a visible position, and reaching it with a broken soul, broken up family and a sick body, causes depression which explains why, in our recent history, famous people have ended up committing suicide.

If we want to redirect our personal and collective lives toward true wellbeing and wholeness, we have to re-evaluate and redefine our beliefs and factors that lead to success and failure. Before asking yourself what success and failure mean for you, it is important to be clear what context you want success in. Depending on the context, the dimension and the meaning of success and failure will be different. For example, in the work context, a failure will be different to that in the family context. In the personal context or in life in general, the way of perceiving success or failure varies.

Thought for Today

Become a true well-wisher who transforms others' attitude with your good wishes. In your interactions throughout the day, check if your feelings towards someone are negative. Also check if you are expecting someone to change his or her attitude or behaviour.

Tell yourself each day, "Just as a powerful bulb when switched on transforms darkness into light in a second, there's so much power in my good wishes that they can transform others' negative attitude into positive in one second."

Message for the day 19-05-2011

To have a balance of responsibility and lightness is to enjoy everything.

Projection:

While fulfilling our responsibilities we need not feel heavy but need to be light within. This lightness will be reflected in our thoughts, speech, actions and relationships which will be light too. We will then be able to mould ourselves and enjoy in every situation.

Solution:

When I take up any responsibility, I need to remind myself that I have taken on this responsibility and I will fulfill it to the best of my ability. I will do my best but will be prepared for whatever outcome it brings. When I am able to practice being light in this way I will be able to make the best use of everything.

Analyzing Success And Failure

You feel positive and joyful when you realize that you are successful. However, when failure comes to you, you feel defeated. The definition of success and failure varies from one person to another and according to the stage of life that you are in. It is important to have success and failure well defined for yourself, because, based on your definition, you feel greater or lesser inner wellbeing, happiness and wholeness. There are also different levels of success and of failure. For example, for some the greatest success is to be happy and radiant, whatever happens inside or outside. If one manages to keep happy in the face of failure, for them it is a success. Because to be happy means that I am connected with my essential worth or inner self, my being is awake and alive. Failure does not reduce my vitality, my contentment levels. The greater or fewer external achievements do not reduce the quality of the inner being or of being happy. The important thing is that you believe your own definition of success and failure. Some ideas can be shared that can act as guidelines, but, in the end, each person has to create their own guidelines, definitions and factors leading to success and failure. Basing ourselves on these guidelines and beliefs, we evaluate our successes and failures. You can reflect on what true success and failure mean for you and, according to those meanings, centre your attention on the values and efforts that lead you to achieve your objectives.

Thought for Today

Have you ever noticed that happiness is not a dependency, it is a decision?
You don't actually need anything to be happy. It's not something that comes from outside, it comes from inside, and when you radiate a happy energy you'll be amazed what it attracts into your life. Don't worry, be happy...sound familiar? Decide now, be happy, and watch magic begin to enter your life.

Real sweetness is based on truth.

Projection:

Real sweetness is living on the line of truth, where we are able to see what is really happening away from the show of words. When we are working on our inner sweetness, we can never be cheated by any situation. Time doesn't teach us to change, but we are able to bring about a change in time.

Solution:

What I need to do is to understand the uniqueness of my life and base it on this truth. Knowing that my life has its own unique purpose and meaning will enable me to enjoy the greatness of life adding sweetness to it.

Resolving Conflicts in Relationships (cont.)

During a conflict, it is good to realize that the energy that you put into the conflict will possibly be the quality of energy that you will receive in return. This is the law of reciprocity (cause and effect). On a subtle level, we radiate according to our attitude, and on a physical level, we radiate according to our behavior. What we transmit on a subtle or/and physical level will return to us in a similar way; unless the 'other' is 'wiser' and decides not to give us back the same negative energy, but rather to treat us in exchange with a positive attitude and pro-active behavior. That way, that person won't bring about a dependence inside us, but rather they will help us to free ourselves of our own negativity.

Often, conflict between two people happens because we do not get the result in a relationship that we want; we are stuck to getting a specific result and we allow our happiness to depend on getting it. On not getting it, we use a wrong method; we generate a conflict, we feel ourselves to be victims, we blame the other, we project our pain onto them; all of this under the belief that others - the other - is who makes us happy or unhappy. This is a false belief.

When your happiness depends on your expectations being fulfilled, it is difficult to be happy in a constant way. Often expectations are disguised desires, and where there are desires there is fear - the fear of not getting what you want. When you don't get it you get unhappy and, in so doing, you keep happiness away from you. It is good to set yourself goals of peaceful relationships, but if they are not fulfilled or if these goals take time to achieve, don't lose your sense of wellbeing. Your happiness is a much more valuable treasure than the external achievement of your expectations and of those that others have of you.

Become a jewel of contentment and you will become a bestower. During the day, check if you were always able to remain content whatever the situations you were faced with. Also see if you were able to be a giver in all the situations or if you were expecting something from others.

At the end of each day, make a list of all that you have attained during the day. Your list could include even little things that made you happy. This practice helps you see what you are attaining and you will become a giver.

The positivity within is reflected in sweetness in the words.

Projection:

Things do not always go the way we want them to. If we allow ourselves to get influenced by the situation, it is reflected in our words, which tend to become bitter. But if we are able to maintain our positivity even in negative situations, there will be sweetness in our words.

Solution:

When I am faced with a difficult situation, my effort should be to maintain the positivity in my mind. For this I must remind myself that each and every moment is worth a lot, which I must be able to enjoy. I must have the joy of being alive and happy. When I will be able to do this, there will be sweetness in my words.

Resolving Conflicts In Relationships

In relationships, sometimes we feel that the other person is not only a problem but also a source of conflicts. We have to be aware that there always have to be two people involved for there to be an unhappy or conflictive exchange. When we are in any conflict, it is difficult to see and understand the true causes and the real energy of the process of the conflict. The emotions that arise inside us during a conflict distract us and even blind us.

In the first place, it is important to recognize that your response in any situation of conflict is your contribution to the conflict. The process of responding to any person or situation is something that takes place in you. Nothing can make you feel anything without your permission. If you have been in conflict with someone for a time, for sure, you create fear or anger towards them, expressing thus behaviors of resistance when you communicate or relate to them. The other person is not responsible for your emotions or for your behavior.

Your experience of conflict and your contribution to the conflict begin in your consciousness and you keep them in your consciousness. It begins with your perception of the other (how you see others). If you perceive them negatively you will think negatively; you will feel negative and create a negative attitude; you will behave negatively, and so you will transmit a negative energy. You don't have to do it like that. Perception is a choice.

When there is conflict there is mental and emotional pain, even physical. Who creates that pain? You! Who creates at least half of the conflict? You! Where do you dissolve it? In your consciousness - in you. Freeing yourself of the conflict is a matter of a decision. At any moment you can decide not to be in conflict. One party has to dissolve their contribution to the conflict, even if it is temporarily, for the process of resolution to be able to begin.

Correction with sweetness is more effective than words spoken with anger.

Projection:

We need to be sweet while we have to correct or point out someone's mistake. When we do that, what goes across to them is the feeling and not the words. If there were to be anger or dislike while correcting them, the response we get would be negative too.

Solution:

When I do have to correct someone, it is necessary to remind myself of being sweet, not just in my words, but in my attitude too. For this I need to practice having good wishes for the one I want to bring a change in. Love combined with sweetness will surely work, and I'll definitely be able to notice a change.

Curing Depression Through Meditation (cont.)

Someone suffering from depression should experience some relief by picturing (visualizing) the following meditation commentary on the screen of his/her mind for 15 minutes every morning and evening:

I am a soul, a tiny star, sitting on my throne between the eyebrows........
I picture my destination, a land of soft golden-red light, beyond the sun, moon and stars........
On the wings of thought I fly there........
Now I am in front of the Father of the soul, a star-like energy like myself but an Ocean of Bliss (Joy)........
Strong currents of spiritual bliss (joy) are radiating from this Supreme Point of Light in all directions........
Like a sponge, I soak up this light of bliss within me........
I am overflowing with happiness and super sensuous joy (joy which is not experienced from the sense organs but through the connection with the Supreme Soul)........

Now, in a deep meditative state, repeat silently the following positive affirmations (thoughts):

I can be free of depression, right now........
I am the master of my mind, my thoughts, my intellect........
My thoughts create my feelings........
I free my mind from all worries, fears and memories of the past.........
I think only positive thoughts about myself.........
I feel very confident, energetic and enthusiastic........
I am very strong and can be a winner in every field of life........
By understanding this meditation I have understood the true purpose and worth of life and am getting more and more interested in it........
I shall now take interest in the activities of day-to-day life........

In our relationships with others, it is good to want the best: "I hope you do very well, I am sending you my positive energy and this is my way of encouraging you and giving you courage. However, if you don't achieve what I think you are capable of, I will not feel frustrated. I will not be dependent on you satisfying my expectations, but I will always want the best for you."

If you have faith and confidence that something will happen, it is a prophecy that must come true. The expectations we have of someone, whether negative or positive, do have an effect on the person we are relating to.

Many investigations into this question confirm the influence that the expectations of educators have, both in the performance and in the behaviour of their students. Everything points to the conclusion that the teacher's expectations form one of the most influential factors in the academic performance of their students. If a teacher expects good results from their students, their performance will be much closer to their real capacity than if their teacher is expecting poor results.

Others experience sweetness when words are filled with the power of truth.

Projection:

False sweetness is saying that something is good without having taken the pains to find out what it is i.e., commenting on something superficial. Sweet words are those that are spoken after having understood the reality.

Solution:

In order for my words to make an impact on others, I must take time to see if I have really recognised the goodness in the other person. My each comment should be based on the truth that I have discovered in others and I will find others taking benefit from my words.

Curing Depression Through Meditation

We all at times experience symptoms like feeling tensed, nervous, restless, frightened, having difficulty to go to sleep, forgetting important information, palpitation (fast beating of the heart), undue sweating in hands etc. The practice of Rajyoga meditation alone can be of tremendous help in overcoming these minor psychological (related to the mind) problems known as “neurotic illness”.

In the case of patients suffering from neurotic diseases such as anxiety, insomnia (inability to obtain sufficient sleep), insecurities, phobias (fears), neurotic depression, obsessive compulsive disorders, addictions, etc. routine systematic Rajyoga meditation practice proves useful when combined with conventional medicines and psychotherapy (the medical treatment of mental disorders). First of all write down all specific symptoms, which you experience. Also do some self-analysis and try to pinpoint the cause of your diseases. While meditating, use the subtle rays of light and might received from the Supreme Being to remove suppressed dissatisfaction with self and others. At the end of the meditation practice, during the last few minutes generate positive thoughts to relieve the specific neurotic symptoms.

Understanding What Is An Angel (cont.)

In Christian mythology, angels are commonly shown as small children with wings . this is symbolic of the fact that angels are very innocent and pure, untouched by vices like anger, greed, lust, ego, hatred, jealousy, etc. (so are children). The purity of an angel is depicted in mythology in the form of an aura of subtle light or a halo around the head.

An angel.s love for humanity is unlimited, yet it is completely detached as the Supreme. An angel experiences that whatever comes through it in the form of thoughts, words or actions has the effect of blessing other souls, as if it is able to perceive or judge immediately or instinctively what each soul needs and cater to their needs. This act of blessing others is depicted in the form of a magic wand. Angels are commonly shown with magic wands in their hands, with which they shower blessings on others.

An angel.s thoughts, words and actions are all serving others. An angel is a lighthouse, mighthouse, connected with the Supreme; it radiates the spiritual rays of light and might, the love, peace, happiness and power of the Supreme Soul, to others.

Understanding What Is An Angel

When I have the consciousness that I am a soul, a non-physical being of light, acting through the physical body, even others begin to notice. This is what the angelic stage is. By remaining in this angelic, soul-conscious stage, others will also feel a sense of lightness and upliftment in my company. Angels are thought to be mythical creatures who have a human form with wings, who are always in the company of God and help Him in guarding and protecting other souls. Actually, angels are human beings with divine qualities.

Angels are always shown with wings. One of the wings of the angel is symbolic of spiritual knowledge, which it has received from God; the other is symbolic of spiritual qualities and powers, which it has inculcated, through the power of meditation or a spiritual connection with God. The wings of an angel also symbolize the lightness and freedom of such souls. With such wings the angel flies constantly in the company of God. Its lightness and freedom is because it has no bondages or attachments in the physical world; all the chains have been broken. Because angels has the absolute and constant support of the Supreme Being they can be the support and protectors of many others, by sharing with them, spiritual knowledge, qualities and powers, which they possesses.

An angel is the .right hand. of God in the task of world transformation (change). The language which it uses to bring about this transformation is spiritual silence; positive, powerful and pure thoughts along with sweet words full of spiritual knowledge, all of which have the effect of uplifting others.

Stress Management

Standing Back, Observing and Steering -

Standing Back : We can do this individually or as a team, when stressful situations occur. We may take a few minutes to stand back mentally and physically from the situation or scene.

Observing : The next step is to re-view the situation, as if we are an onlooker or a detached observer. Being as silent as possible, we can ask ourselves if the thoughts we are having are the ones we wish to keep, if they are going where we would choose them to.

Steering : In the resulting silence, it is possible to steer (change direction) our thinking to where we want it to be; perhaps to personal affirmations (positive thoughts) we use to calm us. The affirmations can be: 'I am aware of myself as calm and peaceful' or, '..as happy and satisfied, etc.

This technique changes our attitudes and feelings, which influences positively the situation as well as how others respond.

In Spiritual Service,
Brahma Kumaris

Thought for Today

In its original form, anger was not anger, not a negative reaction; rather it was the energy of a positive response to people and situations, but the response gradually changed to reaction. When we return to our spiritual identity, we begin to rediscover that capacity to be still, stable or centred, and we are they able to respond positively even to negative situations, or people. With spiritual consciousness, the energy of this negative reaction is transformed into being able to accept, understand and deal wisely and peacefully with whoever, or whatever, is encountered.

In order to extinguish (overcome) anger, one has to use peace and silence, to understand that peace is the original state of one's being; to remember that 'I am a peaceful being' means to emerge the consciousness of non-violence.

Silence, that is learning to put a brake on the mind and tongue, helps us to think before speaking and, as a result, saves us from many confrontations with others.

So the mind is silent and carefree under all circumstances. When we experience the power of silence we will become more powerful. Are You A Compulsive Complainer? (cont.)

The person who almost never complains has realized that every time they complain they focus on something negative, and the first person to suffer is, in effect, themselves, since it reduces their energy level and they feel worse. The person who never complains accepts what is as it is, what comes as it comes, and what happens as it happens. However, if they consider that something has to be changed, they put their energy into making it happen.

Given below is a clear example of the reaction of a compulsive complainer and of someone who never complains in the face of the same situation:

Two people visit a restaurant for a cup of tea. When the tea arrives, it arrives cold on both tables. The complainer suffers and reacts immediately by making a great complaint to the waiter. He gets into such a bad mood because of the cold tea that it generates a really unhappy feeling inside him. The waiter, of course, gets a bit defensive. The person who doesn't complain does not remain quiet and drink the tea. He calls the waiter and informs him that the tea is cold and asks for it to be warmed. He doesn't get angry or into a bad mood; therefore, he doesn't suffer. He accepts that, at times, such things happen! To inform and ask is not to complain; it is to give feedback and to make a request. The difference between both is the difference between an emotional reaction and a proactive response.

If there is something that doesn't go as you would like it to go, use mental energy to construct, create, transform or solve but do not complain.

Are You A Compulsive Complainer?

We live in a world full of imperfections, and, luckily, we are not perfect either. Luckily, because being imperfect offers us the possibilities of learning, change and hope. It inspires us to make an effort and it prevents us from getting bored. However, for the one who complains it seems that the world should be perfect. With such a habit it becomes something natural to think how things should or shouldn't be or could or could not be.

When you complain, your energy and clarity reduce and your unhappiness increases. You don't accept what there is or what is, as it is. Your complaints lead you to criticism and to useless gossip. In these kinds of conversations time and energy are lost and mistrust and unhappiness are generated. Relationships are harmed and then require a good investment of time and energy to get back the lost trust.

Someone who complains regularly expects the world to make them happy and the Universe to dance to their music. As things are almost never as they want, they are in a state of constant complaint. They don't realize that happiness comes from within and is cultivated within. They expect situations and others to make them happy. And, as this does not happen, they complain constantly.

The person who often complains feels disappointed and gets discouraged. They feel that they cannot do anything to change what they would like to change. They feel weakened inside.

To be in touch with inner divinity means to experience true happiness.

Projection:

When we are connected to our inner divinity, our actions are pure and selfless. There is then no trace of negativity. Where there is no negativity, the mind becomes free from feelings of guilt, fear etc. This automatically ensures constant happiness.

Solution:

If there is no happiness, there is definitely no connection with our divinity, which in turn brings negativity. So I need to check the actions that I perform. Keep your body relaxed, your mind serene…
Something hurts you in your heart. Observe it without judging it, without questioning it…
Let the energy of peace overpower and envelop that pain and dissolve it…
It forms part of the past…
Now I let it go. I let go of it…
The light of peaceful and serene love surrounds me in an energy that dissolves the pain…
I let the wings of my heart open without fear…
I am brave. I am strong. I trust…
I accept and I forgive…
My being wants to be free in order to enjoy this instant…
The pain has already gone. It does not belong to me any more…
I feel freed. Peace floods my being and my heart opens to love…
