Stress Management (cont.)
There are some false beliefs about stress that we have acquired:
"Stress is something physical and some relaxation and a little rest will make it go away"
Truth: We get influenced by the articles and the advertisements which say, "Do this, consume that, go there and you will be stress-free". This is not true. If it were true, the levels of stress in life, in general, would be going down, not up. We now buy and consume more things, travel to more places and create more sophisticated forms of entertainment, all in the name of relaxation, than ever before. And yet, almost every day there seem to be new sets of statistics saying levels of stress, anxiety, insecurity and work-place pressures are on the rise.
Pay much more attention to your thoughts and feelings, learn to manage them, learn to fill them with peace and calm, and then watch your personality change for the better as you restore your mental and then physical well-being. Everyone knows this intuitively.
Watch yourself when you get home tonight. Into the lounge you go, coffee cup in hand, straight to the couch, reaching for the remote and on comes the flickering screen. The midnight movie is going on - two hours of terror, fear, anger, stress, etc. And we call this relaxation. See how clever the marketing men are. They have convinced us that stimulation is relaxation. Perhaps it's time to awaken from this illusion!
