Curing Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Through Meditation
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder in which a person becomes trapped in a pattern of continuous, unwanted thoughts or images (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions) such as repetitive handwashing, counting, cleaning, arranging things in order or checking that are senseless and troublesome but extremely difficult to overcome. The obsessions and compulsions can be so hard to disregard, that OCD can become chronic e.g. someone who feels that his or her hands have become dirtied by germs or dirt - an obsession - may spend hours washing them each day - a compulsion. If someone develops an obsession with thieves, he may lock and relock his doors many times before going to bed.
OCD can affect both children and adults. If severe and left untreated, it can destroy a person's capacity to function at work, at school, or even carry out normal activities at home.
